Ring Spun Yarn Cotton Towels vs. Open End Yarn Cotton Towels

Which is best? Why should you buy towels made from ring spun cotton yarns instead
of towels made from open end yarns?

The quality and end performance of a towel (i.e. its absorbency, its strength, its softness and its appearance) is determined by the quality of yarns selected from the spinners, and the weaving loom selected (air jet looms being among the best in the world).

Also crucial to the final quality of a cotton towel is the length of the cotton chosen.

Thomas Kneale and Co only uses long staple ring spun cotton yarn, as once woven they will produce a smooth pile and will maintain water absorbency and durability - without loosing its GSM weight.

This is in stark contracts to conventionally woven terry towels which tend to be manufactured on older, less efficient, slower power looms which produce many grade Bs.

Power looms use open end cotton yarns which are spun from waste cotton sourced from shorter fibre lengths. The resultant quality of these towels is very poor. As the yarns have to be twisted in a heavy process they produce harsh and rough terry loops which deteriorate the more they are washed and processed. They are unsuitable for a contract environment .The towel will eventually lose it’s GSM weight as the shorter fibres will be shed and the weave of the towel will become loose and can easily rip or be torn.
