Providing compliant marine bedding & textiles without compromising on user comfort.
Given the fact that marine vessels can be registered to one country, start a journey in another, and finish in a third, we know that there is quite a bit of complexity around ensuring the right compliant product meets the needs of the legislation bodies and countries.
Add in to this that we have built our reputation on providing comfortable, quality, long lasting products whatever the sector, we have been able to develop our range to ensure these attributes are never compromised.

To ensure we could meet all the relevant testing requirements and legislative aspects, we had to continually re-engineer the product range based on different materials, weights, and blends before we had a full certified product range
Sometimes, to achieve compliance, items can be rigid, noisy, or generally less comfortable than general bedding items. For us, if we wouldn’t like to sleep in such bedding, we shouldn’t expect our customers and their end users to.
We develop our products to be of commercial quality, that last the rigours of regular usage, changeovers and laundering. Whole of life value is important, both from a cost perspective and also to minimise the ongoing carbon impact.
The items can be used in mixed cabins and confined spaces- by ensuring anti-allergy products are part of the design, and where necessary, can be laundered at high temperatures.
When at sea, means of escape even within a vessel are often very limited compared to buildings on land. As a result, there is a requirement by law in many settings for items to be fire retardant and also having been through a specific series of quality checks. These are detailed below:-
Part 9 – IMO stands for International Maritime Organisation, the FTP Code is the fire regulation and Part 9 relates to bedding. This is a specific fire test for this sector.
This is to do with safety compliance. SOLAS stands for Safety of Lives at Sea. This is an international accreditation which confirms an audit and processes at the factory making the products.
This is essentially the same/very similar to SOLAS but is applicable to British ships, which do not recognise the international equivalent.
We would be happy to discuss the above in detail, especially in helping advise what is relevant based on the country of registration, type of vessel and so forth.
Our maritime range comprises of fire retardant to IMO FTP Code 2010: Part 9 across duvets, pillows, blankets and bed linen. We are able to share the appropriate certificate per product.
Products are contract quality, designed for frequent use and laundering, to provide a long lifespan. They can be washed at high temperatures where necessary, for example to stop the spread of germs and allergens.
Most products are essentially made from 100% polyester and microfibre. This is to ensure the items are not only able to be suitable for the stringent test requirements, but also they are quick to dry which is helpful in humid conditions across the marine sector.
Whether it be a submarine or other navy vessel, a cruise ship or passenger ferry, freight, or any other type of boat, you can rest assured that we can deliver great quality products which will aid a good nights sleep, safe in the fact the products are compliant and suitable to legislative requirements.
“Thomas Kneale helped us to understand the different products and how they were compliant to the IMO and UK legislation.
They clearly know the sector, and have a wide product range of products, in different sizes and colours. This made it easy to work out what we needed, and given everything is held in stock, we generally receive our orders within 48 hours
