Each of these areas are broad categories in their own right but equally they do not operate in isolation. Our mix of accreditations and commitments dive deep in to the layers of these areas, many of which are based on independent, externally accredited bodies assessing evidence on how we do business.
This enables us the ability to confidently assure our wide set of stakeholders that doing business with Thomas Kneale is based on the principles of fairness, treating people well, being responsible with sourcing goods and what we stand for. King’s Award For Enterprise
Thomas Kneale are one of 15 companies awarded for our Sustainable Development activities in 2023 and will hold the award through until 2028. The Department for Business & Trade describe the King’s Awards for Enterprise as “the most prestigious awards for UK businesses”. Over many years, we have been developing our Environmental, Social & Governance, and working with a wide range of stakeholders including customers, suppliers and our local communities to make a difference in all that we do.
The King’s Award for Sustainable Development is awarded for commercially successful products, services and management that benefit the environment, society and the economy. It is with this award that we provide assurance to our customers that they are trading with a company that is continually striving to achieve more and make positive change in our activities.
Accreditations & Commitments
SME Climate Hub
We are part of the SME Climate Hub which is aligned to the UN Race To Zero campaign. We have committed to halving our carbon emissions by 2030 and to become net zero by 2050 or sooner. We are signed up to and are a committed participant on the SME Climate Hub website.
Oeko Tex 100
An independent testing and certification system for textile products across the whole manufacturing cycle and is awarded to manufacturers that are proven to use non harmful substances to the environment.
Re-use Network
Re-use Network facilitate its members objectives to reduce poverty, tackle waste and offer a brighter and better future for the most isolated individuals in our society. TK are a partner of Re-use, linking our stakeholders to deliver positive change.
Living Wage Foundation
An independent hourly rate of pay set annually headed by The Living Wage Foundation. It is calculated to allow all individuals a comfortable standard of living, regardless of age and job role. Thomas Kneale pays all colleagues above this rate.
NETpositive Futures
A sustainability tool which focuses on continuous improvement and encourages businesses to explore and take action to support their sustainable development goals.
Ecovadis
The worlds leading business sustainability ratings platform. Thomas Kneale has scored a platinum medal, which is awarded to the top 1% (that’s just 1,500 worldwide organisations of all sizes out of their 150,000 audited companies), a real achievement for our company.
ISO 9001
A certified independent quality management system which is in place to prove the ability of a company to provide products and services that meet internationally recognised quality standards.
ISO 14001
This principal environmental system standard which specifies the requirements for the formulation and maintenance of an environmental system. Thomas Kneale meets the standard to control environmental aspects reducing negative impacts.
The Equality Register
This provides an organisation with a range of resources to ensure compliance to equality excellence. Verified policy and procedures documents by the Association of Equality Scheme Providers (AESP) enable actions taken to ensure legal adherence and improve social responsibility.
Social Value
As part of our Social Value strategy, we support the local community and charities through volunteering and by donating bedding, towels and curtains. We have provided goods to Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, Salvation Army, Sisters of The Poor, Alder Hey Hospital and the Seashell Trust amongst others
