Diverse Owned Companies Perform Better
What is diversity and inclusivity? In simple terms the goal is to attract the very best talent available across the whole spectrum in society, hiring a diverse team, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, religion, neuro diversity.
Talent from all these categories can provide a company with its greatest asset, and we have found diversity positively challenges the status quo and broadens the pool of fresh ideas and innovation helping our business to succeed.
Watch our director, Richard Manville, discuss diversity with Kalida and G4S
Break Down The Silos Of Prejudice And Embrace Authenticity.
At Thomas Kneale, our goal is to ensure that every employee feels safe, connected and valued. Each one brings expertise and perspective that we would otherwise not benefit from and nor would our customers.
Our customers explicitly want to buy from Diverse owned companies who ‘do the right thing’, who identify talent meritocratically and who are not blinded by unconscious bias or even worse bigotry.
We would recommend creating a Diversity Inclusivity Statement on your website.
Corporates Want To Buy From Diverse Own Companies
An increasing number of our customers specifically ask what diverse programs we operate as they want to buy from diverse businesses. Indeed, Thomas Kneale is a more than 51% owned company by our Director who has disability.
In the USA. for example, there is now an obligation for larger companies to spend budgets specifically with diverse owned companies. I am sure this will be coming to England very soon.
The Vibrant Colours Of Kaleida International
Kaleida International is an excellent organisation, which brings together diverse owned companies and corporates to metaphorically shake hands over a digital marketplace.
This enables all stakeholders to fulfil their respective aspirations and social value ambitions to access revenue generating opportunities through live, active Tenders. These tenders, many of which are high value, provide a considerable amount of business to the diverse companies. We would recommend having a chat wit with Jason Roberts, the MD at Kaleida who would be able to provide some sound advice.
Every Voice Is Heard And Valued.
There is no doubt that the best employees in any company do not conform to a single gender or race. At Thomas Kneale we seek aptitude, talent, drive, and loyalty irrespective of background.
We want to nurture the ‘authentic self’ of the individual in the workplace where every voice is heard, valued and respected. Our colleagues are driven and want to make a difference and they are highly motivated to achieve just that.
Equality Act 2010 & Social Value Act To 2012
In the UK, it is illegal to discriminate and so underrepresented groups in society now have a much better chance of being engaged in all businesses big and small. The Act protects against discrimination of age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy, paternity, race, marriage, religious belief & sexual orientation.
‘Equality, Diversity & Inclusion’ is often misused in the same context as Supplier Diversity. They are different. Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) focuses on providing equal opportunities from a Human Resource perspective.
Supplier Diversity focuses on providing commercial opportunities to businesses owned by under-represented groups. Society is undergoing positive transformations enabling authentic talent to flourish and succeed. As a result, everyone will reap the rewards from the outcomes of these efforts.

Inaugural King’s Award Winner
Such an honour for us and a reward for our sustainability journey In the Summer of 2022, we decided to apply for the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
